At the request of the university, the Virginia Tech Foundation acquired approximately 4 acres to strategically control the development of property adjacent to the northeast zone of campus. The property is divided into four parcels. Two of the parcels were developed into a 141,000 gross square foot mixed-use office/retail building along with an 800 space parking garage. The remaining parcels will allow future growth for the university and additional retail space.

The office portion of the mixed-use building provides space for the university’s Controller’ Office, Human Resources, Procurement, Internal Audit, Capital Assets and Financial Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Sponsored Programs, Business Services and the Dean of Science. The relocation of many of these offices to the North End Center allows vacated space on campus to be renovated and used as swing space as the university pursues future renovation projects.

The parking garage provides parking for the building tenants, university employees, and visitors to the Center for the Arts. The revenue generated from non-university tenants is reinvested solely for the benefit of the university.
